A teaser from Sweet and Unsavoury: case stories for people managers
Chapter six – Who killed the fish?
Being a practical person I gathered up the bloated carcasses
and unceremoniously flushed them away. I met
with Steve, their owner, to discover what he thought, what he felt,
what he wanted and needed to happen next. I empathised
with the seeming injustice, and helped him to
understand that we must seek internal resolution and
not just leave it in the hands of the police. After all, we

This chapter is centred on managing conflict – no matter
how harmonious our workplace as a manager there are times
when we have to sort issues out. This chapter guides the
reader through options for sorting out workplace problems.
